I know what you all are thinking. Wtf, are you a grandpa? Are podcasts even a thing
Well laugh it up now girls, because once you give them a chance, you’ll be a podcast addict too.
I only started really getting podcasts about a year ago when one of my friends turned me on them. I was instantly hooked. I’ve been listening consistently ever since, on average, I’d say 3-5 episodes/hours each week.
Whenever I hear or read about a new channel that seems like one I’d be into it, I give it a listen. Over time, I’ve been all over the board listening to channel after channel after channel. I’ve found some I love and some I hate, but ultimately, there are a handful of podcasts that are my absolute favorites, go-to’s, ride or dies, and ones I listen to religiously.
I’ve made up a list for you guys of my fav podcasts and a little what’s what about each.
So, here you are my friends.
Hands down my favorite podcast. Period.
Each week, Sophia interviews a real-life girlboss, and takes a look at her career journey, starting from the very beginning with her first job to where she is now, and everything in between.
Sophia introduces us to some of the world’s most notorious women and humanizes their stories of how they got so fucking cool, both in the career word and in life. You’ll learn how to stand out and succeed in your career, as well as how to make it through life with positivity and poise.
Ultimately, Girlboss Radio expands my knowledge, challenges my thinking, sparks my creativity, and gives me confidence as a woman.
And if that doesn’t have you convinced, girl bye.
2. LADY LOVIN’
Lady Lovin’ is the podcast that started it all. This is channel my friend recommended to me, so the first one I ever listened to and the reason for my podcast obsession.
This channel focuses on all things lady. Topics like relationships, skincare tips, career advice, sex tips, and boy problems are just some of the things they hit on. There’s no rules and no boundaries for these girls.
A good listen when you’re feeling girly, this podcast is the tits. You’ll love it.
And I mean, we’re all #TeamLC at the end of the day, so need I even say more?
The newest podcast on my list, I heard about UnStyled on Instagram and thought I’d check it out. UnStyled is hosted by Refinery29’s Global Editor-in-Chief & Co-founder, Christene Barberich and takes us through the relatable, entertaining, and emotional stories of life, work, and love, as told through the things we wear.
What’s special about this podcast is it’s fundamental theme of fashion. Whereas other podcasts simply discuss the basic themes of life, work, and love, UnStyled discusses these themes but as according to umbrella theme of fashion.
This channel entirely changed the way I see fashion and made me realize what fashion truly means to me (new post on this coming soon).
If you love fashion, this one’s for you. When I’m feeling boujee, this one’s my go-to.
I’m sure some of you have heard of the blog The Skinny Confidential, and if you haven’t, you should do yourself a favor and go check it out. Lauryn Evarts masterfully created one of the most popular blogs known to date and is one of my biggest inspirations. As if her website wasn’t enough, her and her newlywed husband teamed up to create TSC’s Him & Her Podcast.
Her blog is more lifestyle focused, while her podcast is more career focused. Some of the main topics discussed are branding, blogging, entrepreneurship, relationships, travel, marketing, and social media. Lauryn is the best of the best for brand and content creation, and let’s be real, we all want to learn from the best. My girl came through (duh, like always), serving us up her knowledge on a silver platter.
If you’re interested in building a brand or have an entrepreneurial mindset, check this one out.
Oh, and p.s., her and husband are THE most perfect fucking couple and hearing them work together is amazing. The #relationshipgoals here are real.
Just like TSC’s Him & Her Podcast, I was introduced to this podcast by one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE bloggers, Leandra Medine. Leandra created the blog Man Repeller, and introduced the public to a whole new kind of have-no-fear, do-you, be-a-badass content. If you’ve never heard of Leandra or her blog, I highly encourage you to check it out. Seriously, she’s probably the coolest person I’ve ever seen in my life.
Leandra is a highly, highly intellectual person, and it is clearly seen in everything she does, from the way she talks, the ideas she presents, the way she runs a business, and the legacy she lives to create. She’s also considered a humorist. Her dry wit and clever humor is just another one of reasons people are drawn to her.
Her purpose in this world, as she explains, is to prove that “having an interest in fashion never minimizes one’s intellect.”
Everything she does is bold and authentic, which is what how I, too, am trying to establish myself. Think the smartest, funniest, most fashionable person you know, and smash them all together. That’s Leandra. Intimidated yet?
Unlike most podcasts that discuss a number of different topics in 20-40 minute long episodes, Leandra’s Monocycle discusses one original, thought-provoking idea presented in less than 10 minutes. Published weekly, Leandra throws her depth at you and will have you mind blown in a matter of minutes.
Some of the topics she’s discussed are the psychological effects of shopping, the pursuit of cool, loving your mom, overcoming change, and comfort vs. complacency.
I’ll leave you with one my favorite Leandra Medine quotes.
Don’t try to be something for everyone, just be everything for someone. Remain vulnerable. Because you very honest with yourself when you feel vulnerable. And this, like self-awareness that comes out of that vulnerability, is often very, very helpful in your decision-making process. So, be vulnerable, remember where your priorities are and keep that in mind. And open your legs.
Just ponder upon that for a bit. And when you’re done, go on and have yourself a listen to the rest of this woman’s brilliance on her podcast. You’ll thank me later.
Another product of Man Repeller, Oh Boy is hosted by filmmaker Jay Buim. Similar to the style and repertoire of Girlboss Radio, Jay sits down with women in the arts, technology, and creative industries for one-on-one conversations about their work and life.
While Sophia focuses solely on girlbosses, Jay features a broader spectrum of women of all sorts of stature and dexterity. Not only is Jay an exquisite interviewer, his soothing approach and demeanor creates a chill, low-key conversational setting, which makes it easy to listen to and follow along with.
Oh Boy has excellent ratings and a large, loyal following, so you know there must be something with the hype.
Go ahead. Jump on the bandwagon. Follow the hype. Be a Man Repeller (look it up if you don’t get it).
Fashion No Filter is the newest podcast channel on my favs list, with only two episodes aired. Fashion journalists Camille Charriere and Monica Ainley share a behind the scenes look at the fashion industry and how it operates.
Camille and Monica are highly credited in the fashion industry with extensive experience and knowledge. Their real-life experiences are what make listeners want to hear what they have to say.
Camille and Monica are the definition of ultimate cool girls. Hearing them will only make you cooler too.
Alright guys, there you have it! A lot of information, I know, but I really wanted to give you a clear, honest description of what each podcast is and why I’m so in love with it.
If you guys have your own favs or know of any other podcasts worth talking about, comment below and fill me in! I’d love to hear what you guys think.
kk, love ya betches.
