As someone whose been wearing makeup since she was 13, I have tested out and used an absurd amount of beauty products. (Can we just take a moment to acknowledge those of you who had to look at the 13-year-old me who thought actual craft glitter was eyeshadow and shimmer tanning lotion could be used as foundation…mom, why did you let me out of the house?!?)
Thankfully, that stage didn’t last long (I only wear glittery eyeshadow like twice a week now lol…kidding). I quickly became curious and fascinated about all the different beauty brands and products on the market. And well, the rest is history. A week won’t go by without me on YouTube watching makeup tutorials and reading about the latest and greatest products. And you better believe, if I have an extra $15 in my pocket (which, who am I kidding, that like never happens), I’ll immediately run to the drugstore and convince myself I need some more makeup.
Throughout the years, I’ve grown to become pretty knowledgeable about the basics of makeup and very aware of what makeup works for me personally. However, makeup is different and unique for everyone. The same product can be both one person’s holy grail and another’s worst nightmare. So, I am a firm believer that the only way to really know a product yourself is to try it out. (Makeup companies have such a good market base and will always be consistent in sales because of this fact).
I sat back and took at look at all the different makeup and beauty products I use, and picked out the products I’ve used daily for as far back as I can remember – my holy grail’s.
So here it is guys! In no special order, these are my must-have, holy grail beauty products I have and will continue to buy again and again. Enjoy loves!
This foundation is easily my favorite drugstore foundation, and a product I’ve used for years now. It’s the perfect balance of a lightweight formula while still maintaining full coverage look.
This one may be unexpected to many of you, just as it was to me. I had never seen this item featured anywhere as a high rated product, and even reading reviews online, it does not get very good ratings or responses. However, out of all the pencil eyeliners I’ve used, this one is the most pigmented, goes on the easiest, and stays the longest. The formula is smooth to put on, but doesn’t smear. My best friend Mackenzie literally won’t go anywhere without at least one tube with her.
This product is probably my best kept secret that I don’t like to share with anyone. (I know, I know…selfish me!) Having white teeth are a must for me, so I don’t mess around when it comes to toothpaste. I am lucky to be blessed with naturally white teeth, and while I do whiten once in a while with Opalescence from my dentist, this toothpaste is the make-or-break product for white teeth. I started using this toothpaste years ago just because it was the kind my mom bought the family, so I never really thought twice about it. When the flashy items started coming out, like Crest 3D white, I was all over it and totally fine with spending the couple extra bucks to have the good-looking brand. It wasn’t until I started using different toothpastes that I realized how good Arm & Hammer really is. It gives you, what seems like, instant results and at the same time, is natural and healthy. I promise you, I can see the biggest difference when I switch to another toothpaste after like 2 days – it’s unreal.
I’m sure this one didn’t come as a surprise for many of you. With this product all over the best-sellers lists, it’s fame is legit. Simple towelettes are easy to use and store without the burden of scrubbing and rinsing when washing your face. The wipes remove both face and eye makeup so well that a lot of my friends will put a wipe back in the pouch after its first use and reuse it the next day. This product is going to be a couple bucks more than the generic competitors, but is definitely worth it.
I’ve literally used this product since I first started wearing deodorant. I’ve tried out others just to expand my horizon, but haven’t really seen a drastic difference. Dove’s Go Fresh is simple, clean, and fresh, and does the job. What more do you need from a deodorant? It goes on clean, doesn’t clump when you sweat, and stays fresh throughout the day. Simple as that.
Fun fact: a couple months ago I cut 12 inches off my hair. My hair now goes a little past my shoulders – if that can gives you an idea of how long my hair was before. My hair is thick, and when it was long and unhealthy (oops), it tended to get pretty coarse and difficult to maintain. So brushing my hair was an exhausting task. I heard about wet brushes when they first came out but didn’t feel the need to test out the hype. One of my teammates had one in the locker room one day and was raving about how easy it makes brushing your hair and how good for your hair it is and blah blah blah. I tried it, and oh my gosh, I was sold. It really does do what it promises – gets rid of tangles without the pain and damage of fighting through tangles. I would recommend this brush for long and thick-haired women. It will be your best friend.
I know what you’re thinking. Yes, this is the perfume in that one rap song, but it’s not why I began wearing it! My best friend who I mentioned earlier, Mackenzie, started wearing this years ago, probably when we were a freshman or sophomore in high school. I was just obsessed with it, and when she finally cut me off from mooching off hers (I don’t know how you put up with me lol), I asked for my own for christmas and I’ve been wearing it ever since. The 5 oz. bottle lasts me about a year, so every year I’ll buy a new one. I just recently bought a new bottle, making it the seventh or eighth bottle in a row I’ve bought. So yeah, I’m obsessed and like to think of it as my, and my family’s, signature smell. My mom, older sister, and younger sister all wear it as well. Okay, now I sound like a freak! It’s amazing though and it’s pretty strong, so two sprays in the morning will have you set all day.
I heard about this liner when I first started wearing lip makeup from one of my favorite beauty bloggers. I’ve worn this more than any other lip color I own, and will continue to do so. The neutral has a subtle mauve undertone, making it a beautiful color fit for nearly any skin tone. This shade is natural enough for a daytime look, while remaining classic enough for a nighttime look. I like to wear the liner all over my lips, creating an effortless lip that lasts so much longer than a lipstick.
I didn’t understand this tool at first. I tried it and hated it. But after learning how to properly use it, I fell in love. It transformed my entire makeup look. I honestly don’t know if I could manage without my beauty blender, so that’s a little worrisome (lol). I use this daily to apply my foundation and under eye concealer. It’s application process allows it to be much more gentle on the skin compared to other makeup applicators. It allows for you to use less foundation than you normally would, while at the same time, distributing evenly throughout the face and giving it an airbrush finish look. It’s so inexpensive and such good quality for all that it does.
There are tons of beauty blenders of all kinds of brands out there, but I would recommend sticking with the original BeautyBlender brand. It’s probably a couple bucks more, but it is so much better than it’s competitors.
I heard about Sigma brushes from another one of my favorite beauty bloggers. Every post, she’d go on and on about how great these brushes are. At the time, I couldn’t get them in store anywhere near me, so having to order them turned me off. But eventually I did it, and they really are as amazing as she said they were. They are comparable – both by quality and construction – to MAC brushes, which we all know are like $30 for one at least. Sigma brushes are now available in some stores, as well as online. On their website they offer individual brushes as well as useful kits put together for you. I ordered the essential kit (pictured above) and got a great spread of all the brushes I need. The price is so cheap compared to the high-end quality, making it a splurge worth every penny.
