When I started working at Nordstrom, rumor had it that every employee needed to follow the “3-piece” dress code. I had no idea what in the world this was or why it was a thing.
The 3-piece outfit is exactly that: an outfit made up of three pieces. This can be pants, a top, and a cardigan; a skirt, blouse, and scarf; jumpsuit, turtleneck, and a hat…you get the idea? Every outfit must have 3 main pieces.
At first I was annoyed. I was like, okay, that’s a little excessive to do everyday.
But soon enough, I began to see what kind of effect it had on simple, everyday outfits.
That’s when I fell IN LOVE with the 3-piece rule. That kind of can’t-eat-can’t-sleep-reach-for-the-stars-over-the-fence, World Series kind of love (mk&a movie reference FTW).
SO LADIES. Believe me when I say, the 3-piece rule is the easiest, most effective way to take a look from basic and boring to trendy and exciting.
This rule is also super beneficial, both because it just straight up makes you a more fashionable person and because it sparks creativity and imagination. Double heart eyes emoji.
I’m not going to lie, there were instances that I’d be in my closet, for what seemed like hours, trying everything thing on in every way possible. It was frustrating, challenging, and shit, it got weird sometimes. Literally, there were times I’d look in the mirror and have no freaking clue how or why or what the hell I was on when I put that together.
But that’s the beauty of it!
It’s simple, yes, just add a third piece. Okay, no problem. BUT, if you stick to it every day, that’s when it gets challenging and will eventually, force you to be creative, explore your imagination, and think outside the box.
And by doing so, you’ll be one step closer to developing your own personal style (BP expanding more on personal style coming soon).
At the end of the day, the 3-piece outfit trick,
(1) takes you from basic to stylish AF,
(2) enhances creativity and imagination, and
(3) gives you an opportunity to wear some of those things you have thrown in the back of your closet that you’ve never had the balls or fashion sense to wear before.
Can’t wait to see you ladies make some heads turn and strut your stylish selves around.
If you have anything thoughts, questions, comments, suggestions (let’s just call it TQCS from now on, ight?), you know the drill, comment below! I’d love to hear from you guys!
